Service

How I am involved in service in my community and why these efforts are important to me:

During the summer, I am a camp counselor at Coach Mott's (high school coach) baseball camp for little leaguers. I have done this for the past 3 summers. At the end of camp, the counselor's can choose between getting paid or choosing to have community service hours for our graduation project. It's nice to receive something for working at this camp, but I would still work there even if I didn't get paid or community service. That's because I realize that the baseball camp isn't for me, it's for the kids. I enjoy that baseball camp because I get to coach baseball, do something baseball oriented, and I get to make people laugh. For me, that's more important than money or any other gift/payment that I could receive.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. One example of how I have demonstrated leadership in both areas:

On the field/in the locker room, I am a captain for both of the teams that I play for. Off of the field I enjoy helping people and making people laugh/smile. I have recently signed up to be a student ambassador at my high school. This job includes helping out sophomore/freshman find their classes and get there on time. I am also looking to be apart of Kennett High School's ROC program.The ROC program includes reading and helping students at the local Elementry school.

How I pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete:

I pursue a "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete by not taking anything for granted. This past year has been, by far, the toughest year of my life. I've learned that family, friends, and sports could be taken away from you like that. I no longer go through life just doing the bare minimum. I now go out on that field or in that classroom and try my very best. Because most people don't have the opportunity that I have and I'm not going to let them down.
