Service

How I am involved in service in my community and why these efforts are important to me:

As someone who has had a family member addicted to drugs, I know the depth of that struggle. I volunteer at the House of Time, a drug halfway house for women, building them a prayer garden, planting flowers, maintaining their lawn etc. The residents have told me that sitting in the garden lifts their spirits. I also teach high school Sunday school class at the Spanish outreach mission of St. Luke Methodist church. This affords me the opportunity to use my Spanish language skills to share the gospel with Hispanic high school students.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. One example of how I have demonstrated leadership in both areas:

I always invision myself participating in some way to assist those who are drug addicted to break the cycle of addiction. Because Spanish is my second language, I most definitely will use my language skills to continue to share the gospel and volunteer to help the Hispanic population in my community.

How I pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete:

I pursue healthy athletic performance by avoiding drugs, cigarettes and alcohol as well as encouraging my teammates to avoid them too. I am regularly in the gym working out to keep my body healthy and to assist fellow atheletes with their excercise program. Not only is it important to keep a healthy body as an athlete but to keep a healthy soul and spirit. Participating in the Fellowship of Chrisitan Athletes provides me with nourishment for my mind and soul and keeps my faith strong. With a healthy body and a healthy spirit, I am able to perform my best on the football field.
