Additional Info

I started playing football in Cypress, Texas in the 3rd grade as offensive and defensive lineman. I played at Spillane Middle School in Cypress, Texas for 6-8th grades and Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress Texas in 9th grade as offensive and defensive lineman. I moved to Long Beach, MS in the middle of my 9th grade year. I started for JV and was backup for varsity, until my 11th grade year. I started on offense in the fourth game of the season. We had a very effective offense that won 5 of the 7 games that I played in, by an average of 16.2 points. The two games that we lost while I was on offense were to state championship finalist Picayune 38-28 and state semifinalist PRC 46-29. In round 1 of the state playoffs against Brookhaven, I was switched to defense. I blocked a pass that caused an interception for us and had a few tackles and assists. I then started in the state quarter finals as weak side tackle against PRC, a team that is good at running the dive and weak side pull towards my B-gap, but they weren't very effective at the run. I am working out and trying to build my stamina even further in the off season because I will be playing offense and defense 2012-13, my senior year, as center and nose guard. I also plan to attend LSU's summer football camps and MGCCC-Perk's lineman summer football camp in the summer of 2012. We have had a rough year this year but we only had four senior starters this year.

Honors

I was awarded the 2012 Most Outstanding Player of the Year for Long Beach High School. I also received my 3rd year letterman. I am the line captain of my team this year. I am also a starter on the offensive and defensive line this year. I lettered my junior year in football. I was nominated for the Mississippi North vs South All Star Team and for the Mississippi vs Alabama All Star team. I didn't make either team but it was an honor to be nominated by my coaches.

Service

How I am involved in service in my community and why these efforts are important to me:

I just joined Youth Leadership at Long Beach High School and we have lots of really cool community service things planned for this year. My younger sister was diagnosed with leukemia and my whole family had to pull together to help her get through two and a half years of chemotherapy. I was in junior high school when my little sister was done with chemotherapy. My parents had to put in lots of extra hours to recover financially from my sisters illness. When my little sister was done with her therapy in Houston, my grandmother in Mississippi was diagnosed with cancer. My family moved back to Mississippi so that we could all help take care of my grandparents. I have a very close relationship with my grandparents and enjoy helping them in anyway that I can. This year I was nominated to youth leadership and I am excited about the things they have planned for us to help with.

How I pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete:

Football is through for the year, so to stay in shape I am taking a crossfit class 3-5 times a week and working with a personal trainer to maintain and improve my speed, strength and conditioning. I am also following a healthy workout diet designed by my trainer.
