Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

I was named team captain last year as a sophomore, and in other school sports as well. I believe I set a good example for my teammates. I make sure everyone brings a positive attitude each day and works as hard as they can to get better. Our track team's motto is "Better Every Day" and we all hold each other accountable to accomplish our goals that we have set. I make sure my girls know I am always there for them if they need someone to talk to and our team has become a tight-knit family. I'm also a co-leader of Fellowship of Christian Athletes at my high school. We meet twice a week before school and I help lead, organize, and plan it.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I give up pop during the season and have pledged to never use drugs or alcohol. I make an effort to get to bed at a good time each night. I drink plenty of water, stretch daily, and eat a balanced diet. I get my homework done and keep my grades up. I never skip practice and work my hardest each day.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I am involved in National Honor Society at my highschool. I have done a lot of community service. My track team volunteers at the Kalamazoo Marathon every year, my youth group does a lot of work in downtown Kalamazoo, I've been on three different mission trips, and I do volunteer work in my community and school through Fellowship of Christian Athletes at my school.
