Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On the ice I have always looked to work with the younger players to help improve their game. Having a younger brother and sister who also play, I could typically be found out on the ice with their teams when I was free. Off the ice, I am a member of the schools robotics club. We received a donation of 6 eight foot tall remote control sailboats in need of repair. I was able to quickly solve the issues with my boat and get it prepped for action. Then I was able to lead the other groups and get all 6 boats up and running.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

As a student athlete, my body is the key to my success. Therefore, I try to eat healthy, exercise daily, get as much rest as I can with my schedule and stay away from drugs and alcohol. I know some players try to take shortcuts and use performance enhancing drugs, this is a short term answer to a lifelong dream. I prefer to work harder and longer to achieve success. Finally, I try to maintain a positive attitude. Even though we may be having a losing season, there is always something you can improve on. Tempers may rise on the ice, but you have to leave it on the ice. Carrying grudges after a game is an unhealthy attitude.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

In the past and currently I assist in the practices of younger youth hockey players at rinks in my area. Hockey is my true passion in life and giving back to my sport is special to me. I remember looking up to the older players that helped out the coaches when I was younger.

In addition, I volunteer at a local veterinary hospital. I walk the dogs, clean cages, and assist the staff with whatever they need me to do. I just love being around the animals.
