Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.
-
Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

Healthy athletic performance as a student-athlete has always been important to me. There are obvious things like eating right and getting enough sleep, but a hunger for knowledge and always pushing to my limits as well as seeing how much more I can handle is an important part of the pursuit of healthy athletic performance. Whether it's working on hurdle technique or studying for that big test on circular motion and gravitation, I always feel like you want to know or do more. However, pushing to the point of anxiety and stress destroys the point of striving for excellence. To be truthful, I have been a subject of anxiety and over-stress, but I try to relax and breathe my day away with yoga or cooking. When I am doing any of these things, I don't have to think about anything else; I can make mistakes or take risks without having to stress. From experience, I believe that when pursuing healthy athletic performance, the best way to do it is to not frazzled by all that is going on around him or her.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

Though I do not have a lot of volunteer experience, I do my part to help as much as I can at school. When I was part of the band program, I always helped set up for concerts or events, such as the annual Dinner Dance, and stayed later than most to give as much assisstance needed and helped clean up the morning after. I also helped raise money for the Haiti earthquake relief with my school's WE Club during lunch time. Outside of school, I volunteered at for my Track club when we hosted meets such as WAD and carried out my Vow of Silence (WE Club) to "speak out" about the extiguished thoughts and voices of the less priveleged. In my opinion, being involved in the community, no matter how small or large the job, is significant to me because I believe that without selfless good deeds, there would be no sense of unity or trust among us. Our society is and continues to become more selfish and self-absorbed, and it is disappointing to see a growing number of people become less involved in their community. If good deeds were more common, they would not stand out like a tyrannosaurus rex walking around in broad daylight as a pet dog would; they would not be strangely kind.
