Virginia Swimming Eastern Zone Team Long Course 2009
I have been a leader to my fellow teammates during practice. When we are given a hard set, I help keep them motivated by encouraging them that they can keep going even though they think they can't. Outside of the pool area, I seek to be a positive role model and encourager to all of the third grade students I teach each week at my church along with every other child in the first through fifth grade area that I come in contact with on a weekly basis.
I seek to attain healthy athletic performance by eating healthy, making sure I get enough sleep, and by managing my time carefully. I feel that in order to keep up with my school work and be able to practice 17 hours and 30 mins a week keeping good time managment skills is key in order to maximize my performance.
I believe it is important to give back to the community. When I was twelve years old, I helped start a new summer league swim team. I helped start this new team because I wanted more kids to have the opportunity to swim on a summer league team. I volunteer coached for this team, the YMCA Marlins for two years and was then asked to assume a paid coaching position. I have also run sound and video for my church, Stafford Crossing Community Church, for three years. After that, I began teaching Sunday School to third graders. I enjoy teaching kids. A lot of great people have invested in me and I enjoy being able to give something to someone else.
