Livingston Academy Region Runner-up;
I am a member of the National Honors Society and the Beta club. I hold a 3.65 cumulative average. I play three varsity sports that have advanced into Region play and beyond during the past four years that I have been a starter. Recently I competed in the Indiana Hardwood Classic, sponsored by Adidas. My team finished this exposure tournament 4-1. I am a committed athlete and student. It is my goal to attend a school with strong academic expectations and play basketball while there.
I play three varsity sports and have started two of the three sports all four years of high school. I know that this makes others watch me closely. I am well aware that the eight year old in the stands knows what I do and holds me to a standard that she can be one day. I strive to be the best possible athlete and student because I do not want to let down those fans or my family. This success is dependent upon hard work on the floor, and success in the classroom. I am a member of the National Honors Society and Beta club. Young children and my peers must see me as respectful and committed. Recently I found myself in a position that I had to take a stand with a teammate who is a peer. I did so knowing the freshman on my team need to see strong leadership and know that doing the right thing is expected. This isn't always easy, but it is always necessary.
As a student athlete I follow a health plan designed by the school trainer and my high school coaches. I balance the workouts and practice with class time and homework. All of these must fit together for me to successful. I know that I am a competitive athlete who expects my team, basketball, volleyball, and softball, to be winning. I work hard to make sure that I do what is expected to make this happen. At home I eat well and avoid too much junk food and carbonated drinks. I try to maintain a healthy weight, but I do not obsess about what I weigh. I have to be healthy in order to be able to play at the level my teams compete.
I value developing youth programs in my hometown. I have volunteered with my brothers AAU team to teach younger children fundamentals in basketball. Next semester I will be working at my local elementary school as a peer leader to encourage participation in local girls sports and to work with disadvantaged children in both the classroom and physical education programs. Our county is 71% disadvantaged so it is so important for girls to have good role models and develop self esteem so their lives will not end with drug use or pregnancy.
