Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

To all the younger players in my water polo program, I am considered "that guy." I am the guy that you go to when you can't ask your coach for fear of looking like an idiot, the guy you go to when you need some tips and the guy you go to when you need some one on one help. I cherish my role as goalie and a leader on the team. Being both has afforded me the opportunity to witness every single solitary time my coach has corrected a player on my team. I listen and learn and then pass that advice down to the younger players, whether it's shot-blocking, hip placement on defense or how to catch an off-balance pass.

As for out of the pool, whenever there is a group project assigned in the classroom, my classmates always want to be in my group because they know that with me, everything will get done. Just like in the pool, I enjoy taking a lead and calling the shots.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I have sometimes struggled with the balance between school and sports, but to be honest, water polo at my school is such a prestigious and time-consuming program that I have been forced to learn excellent time management skills. It is exhausting, but I find that if I put in enough effort and plan ahead, I can successfully do both.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I grew up involved with the Balboa Island Yacht Club for kids and have served as a volunteer helper for the last 3 summers assisting kids with swimming, rowing, stand-up paddleboarding and running events such as sand castle contest and club elections. It was important to me to help because I remember how I looked up to the older kids when I was young.

My main hobby is reading. I read at any opportunity I can. Sometimes I read for pleasure at the detriment to my school work, but I manage to make it work. I give back by offering book reviews online. I have been writing book reviews on Amazon.com since I was in middle school. Reader reviews have always helped me chose my next book, so I enjoy helping others make that choice as well.
