Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

I am captain of my high school swim team, therefore I cheer and motivate teammates to do their best. I help keep things organized, answer questions in absence of coach, and make it a fun environment.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I spend a great deal of time training in the pool and with weights. I set goals for each workout session in the pool. I have high standards for my performance and know how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and eat right. I take vitamins. stay away from alcohol, and drugs. I try to get plenty of sleep.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I got the privilege of working with Special Olympics. I was able to teach child how to swim and compete. It is rewarding to see the joy in their eyes when they accomplish a skill. Some children are just thrilled to be able to have their bodies free to move. It is touching to have their parents thank me for my time. It is a great experience.

I am involed in the volunteer program in Denison, Texas Big Brother and Big Sister where I am assigned to a elementary age girl that I see weekly to help her with her studies and mentor her.

I work with vacation bible school teaching children Christian values.
