WYE MILLS – Skipjack Hannah Stringer (2-for-4, four RBI) had a two-run single and teammate Kaley Schreiber delivered a two-run double as part of a six-run third inning that broke a 3-3 tie in the opening game of Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader.
Kellieann Tyner went 2-for-4 and winning pitcher Stephanie Weyermiller added a double for the Skipjacks, who had to shake off some rust.
"It's nice to just play ball," said Chesapeake head coach Durrie Hayes. "We've been back from Florida for two weeks. We've got 28 games in 26 days, so we're going to be busy."
Weyermiller pitched four innings, allowing three hits and four walks with three strikeouts. She gave up three runs, two of them earned.
Shayla Loudermilk pitched the last three innings with four strikeouts and three walks while allowing one run on two hits.
Chesapeake 10, Montgomery 2 (five innings)
WYE MILLS – Brigitte Garvey (2-for-3) slammed a three-run homer and Kaley Schreiber (2-for-2) added a three-run double as part of an eight-run first inning as the Skipjacks (9-2 overall, 2-0 league) completed Wednesday's sweep with a slaughter-rule win.
Shayla Loudermilk (double, RBI) and Hannah Stringer each went 2-for-3 while winning pitcher Kellieann Tyner added a double. Tyner allowed four hits and three walks while striking out six in the five-inning, complete-game effort.
"We did some nice things defensively, which is a good sign," said Chesapeake head coach Durrie Hayes. "Everybody's a little rusty and it showed, but for the most part we did pretty well."
