Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On the court, I was captain of my basketball team. I led my teammates by providing them with a positive role model by always giving maximum effort and exhibiting good sportsmanship regardless of the game outcome.
Off the court, I served as Junior Class Vice President. In this position I communicated my classmates' opinions and presented their interests to the Student Council Executive Board and school faculty. During the year I worked with my fellow officers to successfully raise $10,000+ to cover the cost of our school prom.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I pursue healthy athletic performance in a variety of ways. I eat healthy by avoiding soda and junk food and sticking to fresh fruits and vegetables. I follow this diet year round and not just the day before a game. I get adequate sleep, averaging seven to eight hours each night. I exercise regularly, and while I always push myself, I know when to stop so I do not get injured. I do not drink alcohol or smoke because I want to keep my body in the best shape possible.
In a different light, I pursue healthy athletic performance as a student athlete by being a well-rounded student. I take academics seriously and maintain high grades as a three season athlete, by managing my time well and staying organized. I also participate in other extra-curricular activities including the National Honor Society and Student Council. With all of my commitments, I do not get overwhelmed because when I get stressed I pick up a basketball and shoot around for a while which calms my mind and enables me to relax.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I am a member of the National Honor Society and through this school organization I have participated in a variety of fundraisers, primarily bake sales, in which the proceeds were given to various charities such as Comic Relief and Children’s Cancer Fund. These efforts are important to me because I believe that I am responsible for sharing my success with people who are less fortunate than I. By doing this I am helping to provide them with opportunities to achieve a fulfilling life such as the one I live. I believe that you should treat others the way you wish to be treated.
