Nick has wrestled in an equal amount of dual and individual tourneys. His placings reflect both styles of tourneys. He has competed in the prestigious Capital City Classic in Tallahassee, Florida three times an this season proved his mettle finishing 5th in a very deep tourney field. He has also traveled with the team to Maryland the last two seasons and competed in the now 15th annual Patriot Classic hosted by former Maryland State Champions Northern High in Owings, MD. In those events he has competed against teams from Virginia, Maryland, and Deleware boasting state qualifers, placers, and champions. This season Nick wrestled and won a very close and tough match to a St. Mark's (Delaware) wrestler on a team that finished in the top 7 of the Beast of the East. His tourney finishes have gotten better each season. Remember, he only started wrestling as a sophomore!
We just got done with our District Championship in which I placed 1st.. I will be leaving on Thursday for Regionals in Jacksonville, Florida.
Nick has two 1st place finishes as the top wrestler in the tourney in two Dual tourney events going undefeated in both during this season. He still has the Florida Panhandle Wrestling Championships (individual tourney) to compete in this season. Nick goes into that event on January 18 & 19, 2008 as a favorite to win it all.

Nick's progression from his first year to the present has been steady and impressive. His first year (sophomore season) he went 15 wins against 26 losses with 11 pins. In 5 regular season tourneys he finished 3rd in one and also was a Regional qualifier finishing 4th in the District. Nick also wrestled in one JV tourney finishing 5th among 24 kids his weight.
His second season as a junior he improved to 19-16 with 16 pins finishing 5th in one of 5 in season tourneys. In an attempt to better his chances he tried dropping weight for the post season and missed a chance to win his District at the scale. Nick was the favorite to win the District.
That miss has motivated Nick and this his senior season (and only his thrid season) he proving he belongs among the better kids at his weight. His current record is 32-9 with 23 pins and one Major decision. Jumping around from 160-189 (wherever the team has needed him) Nick has finished 1st, 5th, 1st, 4th, and 6th in all of our regular season tourneys to date. His natural weight class is 171 and he is undefeated in our District.
Nick has been an awesome leader in the halls at Crestview, in the practice room, on the mat, and in the community. For that Nick was named team Captain for his junior and senior seasons. For his efforts and potential Nick was named "The One to Look Out For" as a promising up and coming wrestler after is first season as a sophomore. After his second and junior season Nick won the Dedication award as he demonstrated unwavering and excellent leadership skills and showed unmatched support for our program and its success.
Nick is one of the nicest and hardest working young men I have had the fortune of coaching. In my 20+ years of coaching I have yet to meet someone with such a caring personality and responsible attitude yet with such a drive and hunger to compete and "bust heads"! Nick loves to learn and practice and continually seeks to improve. He learns alot from coaching his younger and less experienced teammates. The beauty about Nick Panucci is he is an incredible athlete that will only get better as he continues in his endeavors as a student/athlete at the college level.
Nick has an awesome support system as his parents and sister are always in attendance and cheering and running our boosters and concessions. Nick will make a great addition to any team setting!
