Rowing Additional

At Dayton Boat Club we race 4x's, and 2x's exclusively. My novice year I swept, but im very proficient at sculling. These past 2 years I raced as 2 seat in our 1st varsity 4x. We placed 19th at Nationals with our best Time of 6:39.6. When in an 8+ I prefer to race stroke seat. I have a good feel for the boat and often know when to push it to it's limits. I have a powerfull stroke, and a lot of potential to move the boat. I make my move on other boats after the 1000 meter mark when the race is hardest, and I specialize in the final "Sprint/Lift" the last 100-200 meters of the race, in which i have had recorded splits ranging from 1:37 to 1:26, and as low as 1:16. I am constantly working to improve my stroke, and speed. February 3rd of last year, I broke 6:40. with a new PR of 6:32.5. I plan to be in the 6:20's by the end of erg season this year. I have been doing cardio work, and am increasing my vo2 max, as to better lengthen my sprint. I improve my technique every practice. This summer I attended The USRowing sculling development camp for the youth national team.

Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

I am a natural leader in which people look to to make the best decisions for the team, in light of the team, and even in the absence of the team. I wouldn't do anything that would embarass my team members, or my family, because my team is my family, and they deserve to be treated as such. I've been told that the best leaders, know the time to lead, and the time to let another lead, and when that time is needed, I try and be the most effective follower possible, because Even if a good leader isn't in charge, he is always leading, because others look to him for guidence, and a role model to follow.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I train 7 days a week, 3 in the weight room, 5 to 6 on the water, and 5 days in the class room. I feed my body only the best, and eat no "fastfoods", and drink no caffinated beverages. If I am not going foward, I am going back, so I give 100%,100% of the time. I push myself past boundry after boundry, acheiving goals i had not thought that I could do. I say "When you are tired you are only 1/5 the way to death, and you will pass out before you die, so pull harder". I push myself to the limit, and accept nothing less than my best.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I am enrolled in my schools AFJROTC program, and I am currently working on my Eagle scout project. I am establishing a recycling program in my schools football stadium to better reduce our citys environmental impact and to better our community.
