Personal Highlights

My mother is a volleyball/basketball coach and my father is a football/track coach. I have a little sister who is a 9th grader as well.

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On the court, I serve as our Libero, so I'm involved in pretty much every aspect of play. Hitters come to me with questions during the game and my teammates look to me as a leader. I have to be a vocal leader on the floor due to my being able to see everything from the back.

Off the court, I do my very best to help my teammates and other volleyball players by being a good teammate and example. I have a good relationship with my teammates and they look to me to make the right decisions from everything to who to hang out with to what movies to go to. I spend a lot of time with my mom at her volleyball practices as well as give private lessons to her athletes as well as other athletes in the area.

In the classroom, I feel like I show leadership by doing the right thing in class. I do my work, work hard, and act right. I have to focus on doing well in school, it doesn't just come to me, so I don't have time act silly.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

My idea of "healthy athletic performance" are the things I do to make myself better as an athlete and to go out and give my best performance. I feel like pretty much my entire life has revolved around this. Living in a household of coaches (my mother and father are both coaches - mom is a volleyball/basketball coach, dad is a football/track coach) it's hard not to do the right thing.

I pretty much spend all of my time in the gym. If I'm not playing, I'm practicing; if I'm not practicing, I'm working out; if I'm not working out, I'm giving lessons...I love volleyball. I take care of my body as well. I stay away from partying, alcohol, and drugs and encourage all of my friends to do the same. I feel like this is the most important thing when it comes to being healthy and performing at a high level at all times.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I give private volleyball lessons to elementary and junior high students in the Jonesboro area. It is important to me to share my skills and talents with others to help them get better. I also have an interest in coaching volleyball after college, so I think that will be a good deal.

I will also be involved in an internship next year at a local hospital through our school. I am interested in the nursing field and possibly want to become a nurse after college. It's important to me to do the internship not only to get insight on the profession, but to help serve the people in the hospital. Since some of those people don't have family visit them, I think it will be nice for me to visit with them.
