Personal Highlights

I did gymnastics my entire life, but after serious back injuries switched to diving. At this time in Virginia Beach there weren't any established diving clubs so it was hard to find a coach and practice times. In the recent year; however, it has been amazing to watch the diving community grow up around me.

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

I coach diving to children from ages 7-14, it can be difficult sometimes to get them to cooperate or even to understand some of the complexities of diving. I do my best to be a good role model and mentor as they progress and grow as divers. Last season my team was first in the league!

Although diving is an individual sport, teamwork is a huge aspect. My teammates are my friends and my competition. Especially with the younger divers I have had to be a mediator and end fights, a cheerleader cheering them on and encouraging them when they are scared or upset, and a coach at times, explaining how to correct their dives.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I try to keep my life balanced. Sometimes it can be hard to juggle schoolwork, practice, and extracurriculars. However, I practice good time management to ensure everything gets done! I use every opportunity to push myself further in all disciplines, be it sit-ups during homework, or practicing flashcards with my teammates during stretching.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I volunteer during the summer at the public library signing children up for the summer reading program. I have been doing this now for four years and I truly enjoy the opportunities to promote reading and furthering educational growth. It is inspiring to hear the kids so excited about reading!
