Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On the field I have demonstrated leadership by pumping everybody up before games. Also when people are down on themselves I am usually able to help boost their confidence back up because I know they would do the same for me. At practices I like to have a positive attitude, but also be serious when it is needed to set a good example for the younger players. Off the field I demonstrate leadership by getting good grades in school. I also try to cheer up people when they are not themselves or if somebody is excluded I like to try and include them. Lastly I show leadership off the field by working to improve my weaknesses in a sport too help out my team on the field.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

One way I pursue healthy athletic performance as a student-athlete is by balancing my time wisely to complete school work and have time to practice. I tend to do all of my school work before my practice or after depending on the time so I am not cramming it in late at night. This way I will be able to get enough rest. Another way is after I am done pitching I ice my arm to prevent soreness, and I also stretch before games to prevent pulled muscles. Also when I have gotten injured I follow proper rehabilitation workouts to get me back in practice and games as soon as possible. Lastly I stay hydrated during games to keep me energized and ready to play.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

One effort I have made to serve my community is help out with a little girls softball organization. The girls ranged from about 5 to 8 years old. I would help with drills then help coach them during games. I did this during the summer of 2013. These efforts are important to me because it allowed me to share my love for a sport with younger girls and help inspire and teach them to learn to love the game of softball. Another thing I have done to serve my community is feed homeless people at a church on Thanksgiving. It really made me realize how lucky I am to have a roof over my head and food on my plate everyday. This was important to me because I was able to help feed people who don't have families or anyone to spend thanksgiving with.
