I have been a Varsity Starter all 4 years that I have competed in wrestling. I was selected as team Captain my sophomore, junior and senior years. I am a 3 time State Qualifier, a 4 time Regional Qualifier, and a District Champion. I was Ishpeming High Schools only wrestler to Qualify for the 2013 State of Michigan State Finals. I was 1 match away from placing and getting All State honors, I lost my final match 9-8. I placed in every tournament I entered in 2012-2013 season except the State Finals. As a Junior, I placed in every tournament I entered, including placing at the State of Michigan State Finals receiving "All State Honors." I also received an award for being an "Academic Athlete" the same year. You need to participate in a sport and maintain a 3.5 grade point average or better. My goal now is to take 1st at the major tournaments. In 2015 I became a 3 Time State Qualifier, only the 2nd wrestler ever from my school to do so....the first was my brother Derek.
I wrestle for Ishpeming High School which competes in Division 4. As a freshman I was a varsity starter and wrestled anywhere from 125 to 140 depending on where my coach needed me. My sophomore year, my alpha weight was 132 and I was usually bumped up to 140 or 145 against stronger opponents so our team can be more competive in team meets.
During my middle school years, I competed mostly in open tournaments in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Every weekend we travelled somewhere and competed on Saturday and Sunday. I also have competed in Freestyle and Greco. I trained at the Olympic Training Center located at Northern Michigan University. I have been lucky enough to have many great coaches such as Ivan Ivanov, Kerry Regner, and Corey and Ryan Hope. I have been told that I am the hardest worker on our team, and I have a goal to be one of the best wrestlers to come out of our high school.
In the summer I have trained at Ben Peterson's Camp of Champs, Jeff Jordons State Champion Camp, the Askren Brothers Funky Fresh Camps, and many other local camps to improve my skills.
I also lettered in Varsity Football and was part of the 2012 Division 7 State Championship team. I lettered in Cross Country and in Varsity Tennis.
I am the youngest son of a family of 4 children. My 2 brothers and younger sister have all wrestled. I live in a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our school is small and our wrestling team is very inexperienced. In order to better my wrestling skills, I attend many summer camps and do a lot of work outs on my own. Both my brothers wrestled and had a lot of sucess in their careers. My brother Derek became the first Ishpeming wrestler to place at the state finals. My goal was to work hard and qualify for the State Finals, which I did my sophomore year (2013) and junior year (2014). My new goal is to challenge myself and become a better wrestler and work on my down falls. I also want to become one of the best wrestlers ever to compete for my school. As a sophomore, I was chosen by my peers to be a team captain. I once again was chosen as team captain my junior year. This summer I plan to attend open mat and work hard to not only improve myself, but also teach my teammates and help them become better. In March of 2014 I received the honor of being accepted to the National Honor Society. I was told I was accepted due to my grades and my dedication on and off the mat.
