Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

Through patience, listening and taking control of situations, I have been able to motivate and guide my LCA Swim team on perseverance, tenacity and working together as friends for a common goal. After graduating a large senior class the prior year, we were left with a very small men's team (there were four of us). We had accomplished a lot as a team, but this year was going to be very difficult to be as successful. With humor, realistic goals and never giving up, we were successful in our own right. We did more than anyone thought we could and were triumphant at our regional meet. After the meet was over, we had met our goals and were heading to the State Championship meet in Louisville in two events.
A successful leader is one who can guide, motivate and bring a group of people together with a common goal. A leader exhibits strong character and brings that to the group around him. The community you keep will shape the character you have.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I have always been very active and am usually playing a sport or two at a time until my high school years. I swam competitively for several years on a year round USA Swimming team as well as my high school team. After a shoulder injury I took some time off and focused on diving; I soon realized it was my passion and have been pursuing that goal for a year and a half now. We do considerable dry land work to stay in shape and I also swim for my high school team during their season. Over the years I have realized how important eating the right foods are and continue to do a better job with it.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

Christmas Shoppe

I have been very active in my church for most of my life. I started as an acolyte as a child and moved up to a crucifer starting in high school. It is an important role as I am the leader of the younger servers as well as assisting the priest in preparation for Holy Communion.

I also enjoy serving every year at the Christmas Shoppe put on by the Catholic Action Center. For several days before Christmas the community comes together and offers free shopping of slightly used and new donated items for the less fortunate. I have worked there for several years, assisting in set-up, stocking as well as helping the families shop for gifts.
