Transfer from Corban Univ. W.Soccer - Sydney Dreves
December 22, 2011
This past Fall was my freshman year in college. I was the starting center back for Corban Univ. We played in the Cascade conference with a record of 5-4. Overall we were 11-7-0 on the season. I started and played in every minute of every game with the exception of one. I felt that I competed well against the other teams and players that we faced, both in conference play and other games. We did not qualify for post season play which was disappointing. I felt that we had a few games that were close that we let get away from us. We played a few teams that advanced to the national tournament and we competed well against them losing in close games. I had a good experience with my team mates and have appreciated the new friends that I have made. It has been a tough decision for me to leave Corban, but I am optimistic that I will find a school that is a better fit for me.

Being in Oregon was difficult for me, but not because I was away from home. I will move (just about) anywhere for the chance to focus only on soccer and to compete at the highest possible level. However, I felt myself stagnating a bit as a player, craving an environment where I am fighting to earn playing time rather than being an automatic starter. Hard to explain, maybe, but I really believe that if the players around me are better than me I will learn from them and live up to their level. I don't mean to say I was the best player at Corban, but I have to be honest and say that I have become more and more hungry to play with better and better players. Leaving a strong school like Corban and the awesome friends I made there was not an easy decision, but for me it felt right.

My goal is to play at the highest possible level, whether at a top-level university or at a club in a country with strong women's soccer, like Sweden. I WILL earn my university degree, but if I have a chance to show myself to an international club I will focus all my passion on that chance first, while I am young enough to do it.

I am attending Pasadena City College this spring, and hoping to make a high-level team in the fall of this year. I am also playing soccer with CZ Elite Futbol Club under coach Cherif Zein this Spring. I am looking to play for a Division 1 team or an International club team.
