Was a great swimming career. Now on to rowing!
As of Feb. 2016, 6-0 tall and 6-4 arm span. Now 6-1, 2019.
Swims on The Claremont Club (TCC) Swim Team under Coach John Ries, Southern CA since 2010; prior swam on the Chino Valley Dolphins Swim Club for 5 years. Is a Senior at Claremont High School, Claremont, CA this year, 2016-17, and is swimming for the Wolf Pack Varsity. Her specialties are currently the 50 & 100 Free, and the 100 Fly, however has Jr. Olympic times in all four strokes. Spring 2013 ran track & field for the Claremont Cougars Club for the first time. She went to So.Cal Championships, ran 200m, 400m, 1600 relay, and high jump. She took 3rd overall in the high jump.
Has been told she could be a rower in college as well, by Wisconsin All American Rower and Swimmer Coach Ben Hobbins, now in Palm Desert, CA. Actively seeking this out as an option...
Katrina excels in math and science, and has an interest in the medical field. She was in CJSF and CSF the last 5 years, and was Top Female Athlete in Middle School, as well as Runner-up Overall Female Student.
Has never trained on regular weights- is waiting for college. Does pilates and other dry-land. Does not do nutrition. The college coach can train her however they deem.
Katrina was appointed TCC Swim Club Team Captain in August 2015. She was appointed Claremont High School Varsity Team Captain March 17, 2016. She was certified American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR 3-20-16 and is working as a lifeguard this summer at The Claremont Club. Attended the Notre Dame Swim Camp, July 10-14, 2016; received the "G-Award" from the UND coaches.
Personal note from Kat: I have been a swimming "purist" as far as my strength training. My goal is to get a coach who sees my ultimate potential, who will train me as I haven't been trained before. I want to compete in the NCAA Championship Finals and the Olympic Trials for 2020, and in the process help my team reach its goals as well!
Finally did the 2K erg in 7:24! Dropped 10 secs; 4-6-18.
Wattage test 9-13-18: 496. 2K ERG 7:20.5, 3-6-19.
I want a great education. Part of that education is competing with a team. I love to contribute in any way I can. Playing sports for my university will help me feel like I contribute, as well as be a greater part of the school and get to know other students who are like me. I have not even reached my athletic potential yet. I have a lot more to grow and give. I want to achieve that potential! I want to travel with my team and represent them across the US and even the World. I want the full college experience, and this is a big part of it. I don't want to have any regrets when I am older. I want to say, "I did that"!
As Team Captain for The Claremont Club, I recently organized visits for one of our senior swimmers who had brain surgery just before Christmas. We decorated her room at UCLA Medical Center with swim pictures, stuffed animals, and most of the senior swimmers visited her on a regular basis. As recently appointed (Mar. 2016) Claremont High School Team Captain, I have been assisting the coaches in a variety of ways, especially assisting in coaching varsity while one of our coaches is having a baby.
I am waiting to lift weights and do a nutrition program until I go to college, so the college coach can train me however they know best. My body has been changing on a regular basis, at least until recently, and I didn't want to effect it in a negative way for the future, although it may make me faster and stronger for now. I just turned 17. A lot of my competitors do weights and Vitamin B shots and other things, and they are starting to beat me in the pool, but I am looking forward to the future when I should reach my peak in college, not in high school...I do dryland and pilates and run sometimes which helps. I stay away from alcohol and drugs and tobacco, and try to get good sleep. I don't party, and am doing my best in school and am a part of a number of clubs that do good for the environment and for others. Life isn't just all about me...
