Personal Highlights

The principles of character, service, leadership and scholarship have been encompassed in my life. I believe character depicts my personality and work ethic; service portrays my contributions to society; leadership involves the effect I have on other people’s lives; and scholarship shows my dedication towards learning. It has been a goal of mine to apply these principles in high school, swimming, and church in order to succeed in the future.
In high school, I have challenged myself greatly by taking many honors and AP classes. I have embraced the task of completing every honors class with an A average and I take pride in partaking in such difficult classes. By doing, and mastering, these difficult classes, I have proven that I relish several challenges and am eager to learn. Being a keen scholar and having a hard work ethic has benefited my high school journey and shows my strong belief in the ideals of character and scholarship.
My favorite, but most treacherous, place to be is at the swimming pool. This small place has been an essential part of my life for over nine years. Throughout swimming, I have discovered many important traits that I hold pertaining to character and leadership. By attending morning practices and afternoon practices, grinding out grueling practices, and pushing myself to new heights, I have shown that I put forth a hard working effort ever day and have great dedication towards the sport. This characteristic was presented to me the first day I stepped into a pool and is translated into every facet of my life. Leadership is also present when I walk onto a pool deck. I find that the best way to fuel determination in a group of men is by intensity and motivation. I have a positive effect on others and can sense their goals within me. Without swimming, character and leadership would not be as prominent in my life.
Lastly, religion has been an aspect of life that has recently affected me. During sophomore year, I was being confirmed, thus becoming a man in the eyes of the church. This was an enormous step in my life that I did not feel I was ready for. I felt that my service and leadership to my community was lacking. During the retreat, I experienced the great leadership of counselors and priests who had graciously given up their time to teach us about the importance of faith and religion. They instilled me with the courage to make a difference in my life by leading others. I helped collect food for needy people as well and felt that my services contributed to the well-being of people everywhere. During conformation, I was taught to value other people before myself.
Overall, scholarship, leadership, and services have helped pave the way for my future, but character is a crucial element to my lifestyle. Without it, I would not be where I am now. Hard work is the key to success in every area of my life.
