Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On my team, I try to be an example to others by staying positive and always working to the best of my ability. I show up ready to work and try to encourage others to do the same because we are all working towards a common goal. Even when I am not practicing, I try to set an example by making smart decision like eating healthy, making sure I complete all work that needs to be done, and just an attempt to be a responsible person and good friend.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

As a student-athlete, I have learned that it is hard, but important to find a balance between school and rowing. In the hours I am not practicing, I have to make sure that I finish my work so that I do not have to stay up late finishing it. I try to get as much sleep as possible and try to keep myself healthy. To stay healthy, I watch what I eat and limit things like greasy food, sugar, a lot of bread, soda, and other foods that I know would not help my performance. Every practice, I would make sure that I ate a protein bar or something before I workout and always have a snack for right after my workout. Also I make sure to drink a lot of water every day especially while I am working out. On top of my diet, I am always stretching and make sure to sleep more before races. The biggest thing that I still struggle with is balance, but having a set schedule makes it easier.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I'm involved with my community through many extra-curricular activities at my school like Best Buddies, Hope Club, and the National Honor Society. In these clubs, we do service projects, fundraisers, and other group activities to help important causes which are different each month. I also joined a small group in my school that visited Camden to do service work in the community like clean the streets, give food to those in need, donate clothing and other items, and also to play with the kids that go to one of the schools there. These service works helped me learn more about the world in and outside of my community and also that it is important to help out and give back to these people that have been through so much.
