Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

As a goalie, I see the whole field and everything that's going on during a game, so it's my job to be vocal and direct my defense and offense. I understand strategy more and more each day, and I'm not afraid to tell my teammates what to do and give constructive criticism as well as compliments. Off the field, I try to lead by example; I always have a good attitude and try to bring the team together.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

In my family, education is the priority, and learning is not something I ever want to reject, even for lacrosse, which I love. I am always able to find a balance between school and homework, extracurriculars and lacrosse. I have done homework on the bus going to a game more times than I can count, and everyday during season after practice, I go directly home to do homework. I always spend hours outside designated practices to practice by myself, but I find time for homework, no matter what.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

Helping others means a lot to me because I feel everybody should have equal opportunities in life and it's each person's job to try to better others' lives. I feel it can be anything from saving the environment for future generations to helping people who are down on their luck. I have been volunteering since I was in elementary school, but I hadn't truly understood how crucial it is to help others until I became a high-schooler. Now, I volunteer with Key Club, Art Club and National Honor Society; I have volunteered for a lot of causes such as simple face-painting at our town's annual carnival, ringing the bell for hours in the snow for the Salvation Army and collecting/dividing the recyclables every week at my school. What has meant the most to me this year is volunteering weekly at a center for children and adults with various disabilities. I help out with therapeutic horse-riding therapy for people in wheelchairs or with cerebral palsy, and I absolutely love going each week because they are the kindest, happiest people I've met and I'm lucky to help them and spend time with them. In general, I love volunteering and plan to do it throughout my entire life.
