Basketball Additional

My high school basketball has had good talent over the past couple of years allowing us to have great records and making us eligible to go to the city of palms this 2014-2015 basketball season. I have been the leading scorer and rebounder on the team for the past 2 years with my highest scoring season being my sophmores season where I avg. 14.6 pts. Our team has developed into balanced attached attack with our whole starting five avg between 8-11.5 points. I have good block numbers and I play hard all the time with 150%.

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

I feel I am a leader in both areas because inn class room I accel becasue in middle school I attended PIne View which is considered an academically gifted school and so now that I am at North Port I am considered the "Smart Kid". I the classroom I feel I lead by example i get good grades and help students who need extra help and I also offer my time to the kids who need it. On the court I feel I am good leader now being a three year team captain I was lucky to have played with a Division I point gaurd Larry Taylor and he taught me how a team is supposed to be ran and how to approach the game. So now with me being senior and being one of the older kids on the team everyone looks up to me and in practice and games im more of an on the court coach who always teaches and helps enforce the rules in which my coach is trying to instill.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

In my community I am very greatful for the city I have grown up in and how there have been many people around to support me, so to give that back I spend a lot of time with kids. Me and some of my other teammates once a week go to an elementary school near our highschool and we mentor the kids who are having a hard time choosing between right and wrong and its because they don t have a good role model to look up to. So we go the elementary school and we mentor these kids who believe that we are superstars in this city but we explain to them its not all about the sports its also about being a good student and being good influences on our classmates. In our mentoring groups we hope to pull the full potential out of these kids who have so much. An orginization I was lucky to grow up with was North Port Youth Basketball (NPYB). So I give a lot of my going to the gyms where they practice and helping them out trying to give them some pointers to help become better basketball players. I also enjoy going to their games which brings smiles to their faces as well as mine and i'll just watch them play and its just like a flashback to when i was there age running around on that court. These efforts are important to me because I enjoy being a role model and like a big brother to these kids.
