Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

This year as a junior I was named captain of the Bay Shore Varsity Field Hockey Team. Throughout this past season I learned the responsibilty and hard work it takes to act as a role model for my teamates. As captain I made sure that the team opperated in a coherent manner and that we played with high intesity from practice to the game. Aside from being a leader on the field I had the oportunity to demonstrate leadership by being a religous education teacher for comfirmation classes. Through the church I have taught younger childre how to alter serve at mass, and on my days off from work in the summer, I volenteered as a counsler for my parish's faith camp.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

In order to pursue a healthy athletic performance I obstain from the use of drugs and alcohol of any sort. As a student athlete I know it is my resopnsibility to make smart decisions and to focus on acdemic achievement. I was selected to be a part of Atheltes Helping Athletes, a program consiting of student athletes who strive to succeed both academically and athletically. As a group we go to the elementary schools to imform students of the dangers of drugs and alcohol and the devestating impact they can have on thier lives. We act as role models with the goal to inspire the youger generations to make smart decisons and to become involed in the athletic programs our district provides.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

By being a participant in various area groups and events, I have gained a better appreciation for people who give up their time to better the community. As a member of the Bay Shore Junoir Garden Society, working on various projects such as developing and enriching our community garden, creating wreaths to decorate main street during the holiday season, and participating in the annual Bay Shore clean up day, I learned how every small act makes a large impact on the place where I live. Helping at charitable events such as the annual Maggie Fisher Cross Bay Swim, I had the opportunity to work with others in assiting swimmers finish the race. s a memeber of the Junior Catholic Daughters I have participated in events that help those in need by serving food at the St. Patricks Soup Kitchen, partaking in a clothing drive for the less fortunate, and fundraising money to help neighboring parishes in need of funding. Bay Shore is very diverse and vibrant and assisitng in these events helps me appreciate even more this wonderful community and its people.
