Personal Highlights

I have lettered in 3 sports, Wrestling, football and track and field. This past season, I decided to focus on my wrestling career and opted not to play football. The extra effort in wrestling allowed me to cut my season losses in 2013-2014 of 10 to only 4 this year. I continue to improve and feel that as of 1/20/2015, I am only starting to realize my full potential.

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

As to leadership, I believe my teammates see me as a leader. I was chosen team captain as a sophomore and again as a junior. My leadership role carries over off field as set out above with organizing my teammates to volunteer at school. In addition, last year after a blizzard, I contacted my teammates and got several of them to go out and shovel out residents who were not able to shovel themselves.

In addition to the above, I believe it is important to recognize all members of the team, whether starting wrestlers or not. That is why on Senior Night this year, I gave up my varsity slot so that a senior who does not normally wrestle, could have the opportunity to get out on the mat one last time before he graduates.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

One of the issues with wrestling is making weight. I do not believe in heavy cutting and would rather follow a weight management program. This involves knowing how much weight I lose at practice and how much weight I sleep off overnight. Based on this information, I know that I can safely go over my weigh-in weight by 5-6 pounds during the week.I use a clean diet to help me do this and maintain the program during my entire season. This allows me to avoid drastic weight cuts which could impact my performance on the mat.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I believe it is important to give back to my community. One of the ways I try to do this is through our youth wrestling club. I volunteer my time after practice to work with elementary school kids on the sport of wrestling. I do this two nights a week, and when I am not wrestling, I will attend their tournaments and coach their matches.

In addition to the above, I believe student athletes have a duty to volunteer at their schools. This past summer, I helped organize my teammates for a beautification project at the elementary schools in our town. We spread new mulch on all the playgrounds for the kids prior to the stat of school.
