Personal Highlights

Ariel is a junior at NFA High School, a large urban school. She lives in one of the poorest census tracts in America based on the U.S. Census. Nonetheless, she is a happy, motivated student and rower. Ariel has been on the NFA Varsity Crew Team for what will be her second year this Spring. She rows off-season with the Orange County Rowing Association. Ariel is taking difficult courses at high school and still maintaining an above average grade. She never takes the easy way out. Ariel's dream is to go to college and obtain a degree to be one of the very few in her family to have college education and contribute to pursue a rowing career as well.

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

Ariel is a leader at the Boathouse. When the younger athletes are unable to approach a coach, the first person they go to is Ariel and she helps and leads all those around her. She is a quiet leader, never yelling or acting in a forceful manner she simply leads by example.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

Ariel goes to a large urban high school where drugs and alcohol are rampant. However, she leads a clean lifestyle avoiding all bad habits. Ariel jokes that her worst habit is cheeseburgers. Her greatest addiction is the sport of rowing.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

Ariel is a volunteer with America Rows and Swims Newburgh, a not for profit charity, supporting rowing and swimming in Newburgh. Ariel has put in countless hours as a rowing camp counselor, and teaching younger kids how to row, all as a volunteer. She also volunteers twice a week at the pool to teach underprivileged youth how to swim. She volunteers for community givebacks such as the SouperBowl of Caring, wherein she raised money for this national effort and donated money and canned goods to the Newburgh Salvation Army. Ariel also volunteers for Families 4 Families, which collects and delivers food and gifts to the needy of Newburgh.
