Personal Highlights

I've been a Coronado High School varsity cheerleader for four years. I'm also involved with the Coronado Varsity Chorale, with which I'm expected to attend the state solo and ensemble competition for the second time. I'm a member of National Honor Society, National Charity League, and the Lubbock Dive Club team. I dove from 5th-8th grade and the spring of my sophomore year to present. My older sister was a diver for New Mexico State University and my older brother dove for Texas A&M University.

Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

Being one of the five seniors on a team of mostly underclassmen and having the privilege of being team captain, I was in the position of leadership for the team. I was able to provide words of encouragement to fellow teammates struggling with new dives, old dives, or various aspects of life. Aside from diving, being an athlete has taught me perseverance in the classroom and determination to support my peers, whatever the scenario being. I understand frustration better and I'm able to redirect the situations I learned in diving or cheer and apply them to the obstacles my peers face.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I consistently attend High School diving practices five days a week and club diving practices twice a week. Also, I make sure that I participate in strength training exercises inside and outside of the pool. In addition, I attend weekly tumbling classes in order to better my skills for cheer. I make sure to attend these classes consistently and exert my efforts to their full potential in games or pep-rallies.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I am a member of the National Charity League and National Honor Society and through both the organizations, I'm given the opportunity to participate in a variety of service oriented programs. I enjoy with people, so one of my favorite projects is serving at local soup kitchens. I've had the privilege to travel to Kilgoris, Kenya with the Kilgoris Project, a project that reaches rural communities by building schools, providing health care, and religious education. In addition, I have traveled to Piedras Negras, Mexico and participated in school improvement projects and religious education. These experiences provided me with a new perspective on poverty, it really defines that people are all equivalent. No matter the living conditions, it is possible to relate and participate in communion with anyone.
