DISRTICT FINALS Lansing Christian vs
LCS clearly was undersized in this matchup with a team from the west side of the how did they get in our district game? Anyway the game clearly was dominated by LCS in the first half as Sean Cook hit the post, saw a rocket of a left leg shot just miss wide and Alex have numerous attempts from close in to no avail and no goals in the first half. The defense led by Sal and Kyle seemed to keep everything no closer to our goal then mid field and it seemed by halftime that we should be way ahead of this very TALL team which we later found out were the defending division 4 basketball champions. By half time the score ended up in a 0-0 tie with LCS seeming to dominate the entire first half. It appeared to be the same as the second half opened with LCS dominating on the offensive end but not able to get anything into the back of the net. Tri Unity came down with a rush and ended up with a corner that seemed to bounce around the box for days and ultimately get sent into goal for a 1-0 lead. LCS continued it's onslaught with Sal being moved up and continued to drill shots that either just missed or get knocked out by a solid defense. With time winding down it appeared that LCS was bound to get something across the goal line. With 4 minutes to play the keeper even made a costly error using his hands just outside the box with it n ot being called! Alex made many crosses right in front of the keeper but nobody home to push the ball through. Time continued to wind down in this final and LCS quest for a state championship. In the end a heartbreaking loss to a team they should have beaten. What a great year for LCS and Sal. We are so proud of the way you play each and every game. Tonights loss was tough but you will look back on this and have many smiles as the bond you build this year with guys like Kyle, Gran, and Alex who will move on to college between now and next year. Sal you are awesome and we are so proud of you. With tonights loss Sal chose to miss the final game of the regulear season with Lansing Catholic playing Eastern and a possible berth in the post season for the first time since 1991. Watch for PILGRIM Soccer in 2008!
