Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

Though there is no official position as "Team Captain" for my club diving team, I would call myself a team leader. I am currently the person that has been on the team for the longest amount of time, therefore I have the most experience with the coaches. I know how practices run and I understand the team dynamic really well. For years now, I have been leading the warm-up exercises. Younger athletes often go to me for advice on a dive that they are learning or struggling with. During the competition that my team hosts in the fall, I help coach the kids while my coaches are busy running the meet. I also help run the computers and the concessions stand at the meet.

When I am not leading the diving team in exercises, I help lead my school's yearbook club. I have been a member of the BRHS Epic Yearbook staff since my sophomore year. Last year I did various tasks for the club, but I mostly worked as a photographer. I showed my commitment to the club by being a photographer, because the position requires taking time out of my personal schedule to shoot school events and sports games. This position also requires positive relations with students and teachers, as well as exceptional social skills. My work for the club paid off, as this year Mrs. Cahill, one of the club advisors, approached me with the offer of being an editor for next year’s Epic staff. This year I am continuing my job as a photographer, but the current editors are also teaching me new tasks to prepare me for next year. I am honored to have been offered this position, and I look forward to assuming it next year.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

At Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church in Basking Ridge, New Jersey I serve as a Youth Leader. I help lead the middle school youth group, Elevate. While I am a leader for all of the middle school students involved in the program, I am one of three leaders for the eighth grade girls small group (small groups are divided by grade and gender). At Elevate, Steve Janssen preaches the main lesson, and after we split up into our small groups for further discussion. I help lead this discussion with my small group and I help in the closing prayer. Elevate meets on all Sundays, except the first of the month, from 10:30 to 12:00. Every year there is also a retreat to Lake Champion where we take time away from our everyday lives and spend it with God.

There are also other events or activities that I am involved in with my church. About twice a year we do service at a school in Newark called World Impact, where we help improve the school building. We have various events such as a 5k walk/run, a day to cook for “Ziti for the Needy,” and most recently, Parents’ Day Out, where we watch children for the day to give parents time to do Christmas shopping. I take part in these additional activities as often as I can, in addition to the service I already do for my church.
