Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I have always loved being active but most importantly I have a strong competitive nature that drives me to be the best I can be while maintaining my values to win a game. I love being part of a team and it pushes me to strive harder to achieve whatever goals I set for myself academically, athletically as well as personally.
Honestly basketball is a piece of who I am and will serve me well to be honored enough to play at a college level while pursuing my education.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

I think one of the biggest examples of leadership as an athlete on the court is how I set an excellent example of team work. One example would be when one of my team mates forgot his practice jersey and had to run suicides after practice was over by himself, as a team leader I joined him and helped show our team that we stand together though good and bad and he hasn't forgotten his jersey since. The second example would be our first loss of the season, we lost by one point and while it stung to loose I know our team fought hard and played together as a team and after the game I held my head high and later posted a picture of our team and playing that night an said " Good game boys, the loss sucks just lets keep working hard the wins will come " I believe leadership comes not just in how we carry ourselves but how we treat others as well. I think one of the biggest examples of leadership off the court is by working hard in school maintaining 3.2 grade point average or above. A second example is one day in high school at lunch I noticed a boy sitting by himself at at a table, he had done this the last 2 days and I got up and asked him to come sit with my friends and I. I knew how it felt to be new as I moved to Virginia Beach in the middle of my 7th grade year and left all my friends behind. I am a very sociable person so I was able to make friends quickly through making my middle schools soccer team and basketball team. But the transition was still awkward and its hard to find a way to fit in and meet friends so I feel I demonstrated a good leadership quality to my peers but mostly I just felt it was the right thing to do.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I pursue a healthy athletic performance based on how I eat, sleep and exercise. I always make sure to eat enough food to fuel my body for whatever work out I plan on doing. I enjoy most foods in moderation and in preparation for an athletic event coming up I tend to fuel my body with more protein for strength and endurance. I work out everyday with basketball practice and weight trainning 6 days a week and on Sunday I run, hike or bike to maintain my cardio and fitness. Over the summer I play AAU basketball to stay competitive and I train 3 times a week on ball skills and weight training with an athletic trainer. I am very active and enjoy body surfing and swimming in the summer as a fun activity. I also believe that getting enough sleep helps repair the body to perform at a high athletic level. I know how I treat my body now will affect my future health. I believe in leading by example and I do not use drugs or alcohol.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I grew up in Kentucky where for 5 years I had a great opportunity to volunteer and work closely with my local Animal shelter to get food, supplies and also walking dogs and playing with cats to help them integrate in the adoption process. My life was literally turned upside down when my Mom was diagnosed with stage II aggressive Breast Cancer just 7 years ago and I helped locally to raise money for a single mom fighting breast cancer in honor of my moms strong fight against this terrible disease. I also handed out pamphlets at local soccer games and my middle schools soccer and basketball games to promote early detection. I helped deliver teddy bears during the Christmas season to my local hospitals emergency room in Georgetown Kentucky and the fire department to give to children over the holidays. When i moved to Virginia Beach I began volunteering at my local church that I attend. All of these organizations are extremely important to me in different ways. It brings me a lot of happiness to help people in need, kids in need and even animals at the shelter. I believe strongly that at at young age we can set an example through all of our service to our community in areas that are in need to make it stronger.
