I aspire to play college basketball and attain a degree in Biomedical Sciences and ultimately Pharmacy. I strive to be the best that I can be: Christian, student, and player. Every day I work toward achieving my goals by getting good grades and putting 110% effort into everything I take on. My goal is to play at the NCAA Basketball level and to contribute to the success of my college’s program. I am dedicated to putting team objectives ahead of personal objectives. I love this game, work hard for this game, and winning or losing will never give up.
I sincerely believe in leading by example and this past year I was team captain for my high school team and exhibiting good sportsmanship at all times is something that the whole team must be committed to. On a few occasions this past year I needed to remind my teammates to walk away when opposing teams might say something derogatory and at other times I would need to fire them up and get them back into the game as perseverance is key. It is not always how you start but how you finish the game that is important. I have played with and against people from all walks of life, nationalities, socio-economics, and personalities which has influenced my ability to work as a team and put the needs of the team above my own. I am a leader off the court because I have consistently made good grades with a 3.8 GPA at the end of my Junior year. I know I want to major in Biomedical Sciences and ultimately become a Pharmacist. To further my growth in my career I am currently volunteering in the teen summer program at Loma Linda University Medical Center in the Home Infusion Pharmacy department. I have excelled because I understand time management, I have self discipline, I have a strong work ethic, I am always striving to improve, and I am coachable and willing to learn.
I am committed to improving my craft by shooting 300 shots each day and working out 3-4 times a week including lifting weights and building my core. I also do plyometric exercises to keep my vertical jump at its peak and I build stamina by running 2.7 miles every week. I do these activities while also attending my High School practices, AAU practices, and games of 20 hours each week. The key is time management and self discipline. I understand that I need to put the work in to see the results.
I feel that service to my community is important. I like knowing that I am a part of something bigger than myself. Volunteering helps us appreciate what we have and fills us with compassion and understanding for others of all ages and backgrounds. One thing I like about volunteering in my community is that there are many opportunities to make a difference and I find that very rewarding. I volunteer with 3 organizations: Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California which provides assistance to families who have or have had a child with cancer and I volunteer at their events because I have also been affected personally in my family by Cancer, Cooley Ranch Elementary School and I volunteer at the school because an extra pair of hands is always needed in various tasks and events and my commitment to family because my mother works there as a teacher, and in the Teen Summer Program at Loma Linda University Medical Center in the Home Infusion Pharmacy Department and I volunteer there because I am committed to learning more about my chosen field for my career.
