FIRST TEAM ALL LEAGUE FOR 2015-2016
I am the female varsity goalie on male dominant ice hockey team- starting goalie since Freshman year-current, winner of 2014-2015 "First Team All League", 2015-2016 "First Team All League" and winner of "Second Team All League" my freshman 2013-2014 season. I have been on the honor roll at my school every quarter of every year I've been in school and active in marching band and drama.
When I'm on the ice with my team, I have numerous duties in helping younger skaters learn the game, helping with skating and shooting drills, and cleaning up the ice. As far as leading off the ice, I am a mentor in the P.E.A.C.E. Project by making kids feel like they fit in at school and in their lives, I was also requested to help explain what I do with my team, as far as being involved in a male-dominated sport, to inspire girls that need inspiration that they can do anything that they set their minds to. In theater at my school, I have helped procure costumes for this year's past fall play as well as promote the events of the theater at my school. One other activity I am involved in is marching band, where I run taps to lead the band on and off the field, while the center snare is not present.
Some of the many ways that I prepare myself is having a well-balanced diet to help with my performance and recovery on and off the ice, I intensely train at my school's weight room three days a week to train for both strength and endurance under the direction of coaches involved with the varsity football team, which entails numerous speed, agility, and quickness drills, I also stay properly hydrated and get plenty of rest while recovering after a workout. On the ice, I put forth 110% effort at all times during all of our drills and games, and I follow proper stretching techniques for warming up and cooling down.
I am a mentor as a part of the leadership team for a volunteer organization called the P.E.A.C.E. Project. "P.E.A.C.E" is an anagram for "Protecting Every Abused Child Everywhere". The purpose of this organization is to help kids from all around, and of all ages, that feel alone, unsafe, or like they don't fit in, to feel wanted. Being a part of the P.E.A.C.E. Project is very important to me because for me to help a child feel loved and welcome means the world to me.
