Other Academic Information
One of the reasons I want to be a teacher is so I can help other kids like me who "fall through the cracks". It wasn't until the end of my Sophomore year that the counselor and school physiologist figured out that I had a learning disability. This has led to a GPA that is lower than I wanted, but it is what it is. I was put on a 504 plan starting my Junior year and with the increased help, this year has been much less stressful and much better grades! Apparently being as physically active as I have been for so long can mask and keep learning disabilities at bay. Most parents and teachers never notice until the student stops playing their sport. This is what happened to me. I sustained an injury during high school soccer and stopped training for a few weeks. Once I stopped, my grades dropped and it raised a red flag. This shouldn't happen to a student 10 years into their education. If I can help one student avoid the same stress, frustration, and embarrassment that I have dealt with my entire life, then I will consider myself a successful teacher.
