Since beginning the Futsal Programme Darnell has also been selected to represent Llanwern Newport County in the 11 a side South West Counties league. Darnell has played every match in the 2015/16 season, playing at either centre back or right full back.

Darnell participates in several coaching sessions per week as focused preparation for the South West County league matches, these include sessions designed to specifically improve skills such as man to man defending, set piece defending, zonal defending, counter attacking, tactical awareness, shooting accuracy, passing accuracy, and also sessions to develop strength and stamina. Summary:

A talented and hardworking footballer who is commanding centre back. He has sound technical ability, is comfortable using both feet, strong in the air, and has a strong work ethic. He is highly motivated and determined to succeed and has a desire to keep improving. He enjoys his defensive responsibilities but is also comfortable on the ball and able to carry the ball forwards and passes the ball accurately. He is also a threat at offensive set pieces and has a good goal scoring record. An excellent communicator who is very good at organizing his defensive colleagues and the players in front of him. He has good game management skills, trains incredibly hard and is always willing to listen to the advice of his coaches.

Playing Experience:

• Spencer Youth and Boy’s football club – age 6 to 11. Competitive league and cup football, Darnell played in a variety of positions during this phase of his soccer development winning many competitions and scoring goals regularly.
• Newport County AFC junior academy – age 8 to 14. Darnell was selected to attend the Newport County academy and received advanced technical coaching from UEFA qualified coaches during this period.

• Marshfield AFC – age 11 to 17. Competitive league and cup football, Darnell has been a key member of these junior teams and captained the side on many occasions. He has played in many positions before settling on a permanent defensive role.
• Llanwern Newport County – age 17. Darnell was selected to attend the Newport County futsal academy programme and subsequently was also selected to play in the 11 a side academy team competing the South West Counties League. This provides a very competitive and high standard of soccer. Darnell has established himself in the team and performed consistently well this season.

Soccer Additional

Darnell is currently studying at Llanwern high school. He is in the Second year of sixth form and is studying for a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (equivalent to 3 A Levels) as part of the Football League Trust Education & Futsal Programme run by Newport County AFC.

The Football League Trust Education & Futsal Programme is aimed at boys aged 16 to 19 and aims to further both their education skills and their footballing skills with this exciting small sided game.

Darnell receives specific futsal training from UEFA Coaches on a daily basis and represents Newport County in the official Futsal League based in Swindon and Cardiff on a fortnightly basis. Details available at https://www.fltfutsal.co.uk/ and https://www.fltfutsal.co.uk/club/newport-county/squad

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport includes modules such as Sports Coaching, Psychology for Sports Performance, Sport as a Business, Anatomy and physiology in sport, Assessing risk in sport, and Fitness testing for sport and exercise.

Darnell aspires to play soccer at the highest level possible, but appreciates that very few people are able to achieve this. The opportunity to study in the USA whilst receiving top quality coaching and playing soccer at a high standard is a realistic aspiration. Darnell would relish the opportunity to study in the USA and has an ambition to pursue a career in the US College sports industry. Darnell has always worked hard to achieve his goals and has a great attitude to everything that he does. He is always willing to listen and take advice and is constantly looking at ways to improve. Darnell has spoken with several current students who have already experienced the culture and lifestyle and he strongly believes that he is ideally suited to this type of environment and would be hugely grateful for the opportunity.
