Personal Highlights

As an USATF Junior Olympic All American Athlete along with spending the last three years competing in varsity track at Garland High School, I have gained insight I believe will be a great asset for me both heading into college and for the rest of my life. One of the most important lessons I have learned is to always remain focused. Like life, the meet will continue on, even when I haven't hit a goal or target I've created for myself, I have to focus and ready my mind for my next event. Being a student-athlete has taught me that I can recognize what went wrong. In taking accountability and ownership of what my error was I can correct it and continue to concentrate on all that comes next. Being a student athlete my grades are important to me; this has taught me the significance of discipline combined with time management.
To succeed in school, sports and life, we need to make certain sacrifices to realize our ambitions. Whether it is pushing a little harder in practice or putting in that extra hour of studying at the library, being a student-athlete has helped me learn how to prioritize my goals in order to achieve those that are most important to me. However, sometimes we cannot accomplish everything on our own. As a student athlete, I have learned that teamwork is a critical aspect of success. Teammates are an invaluable source of support and friendship and, without them, we could never reach our goals.
