PERSONAL STATEMENT

Ever since I was 4 years old, I’ve had a passion for athletics. As my gymnastics career came to an end, I discovered the sport of volleyball and immediately fell in love. I am currently in my 5th year of volleyball and discovering that I love it more and more each day. My junior year at Richland High School, I was selected onto the Varsity team where I am a setter. Ever since the beginning of the high school season, I’ve worked hard to prove I am able to be placed at the highest level of play. I played for Columbia Juniors 16-red team and learned to be the leader on and off the court. Though I was not the team captain, I feel I was the vocal leader on my team. I am able to energize my teammates when we are losing by a few points and I am able to keep the energy going while we are winning by a few points.

As a student athlete, I am able to set goals for myself on the court and in the classroom. While I am at a 3.8 cumulative GPA, I want to raise it to at least a 3.9 by studying even harder than I already do so I can get the highest academic scholarship available to me. My goal is to graduate from college with a major in Exercise Science and a minor in Nutrition. I would like to own a business where I can help athletes like myself to excel in the best way possible. As for the volleyball court, I want to raise my skillset to the next highest level possible, which means playing at the Varsity and Collegiate levels. I will do so by working harder in practice, games and being a better team player than I already am. I will continue to be a vocal leader for my team on the court and being a positive influence for my team by how committed I am to improving my skillset and how I want to become that much better.
