I was Honorable Mention this year for the All State team. I was voted unanimously First team All Conference last year as a sophomore and again this year as a junior. I led the conference in blocks last year and am the leader in blocks in all divisions in the State this year. I also broke the old school record of most 3 point shots made in a game. The old record was 7 and I had 10.
As a sophomore I played on Varsity and our team made it to State. We made it to State again this year, but unfortunately, the end result was the same losing in the semi final game.
Basketball has always been a passion in my life. I work hard to be a successful high school athlete and it is important to me to continue being successful. Being recruited would not only be an incredible opportunity to learn and grow as a young adult, but it would also be a great accomplishment and reward for all the hard work I put in to be successful at the sport I love. Playing college basketball is a goal of mine and being recruited by schools would be extremely helpful in achieving my goal.
I have learned the importance of having strong leaders and followers on and off the court. The teams with the best leaders are often the most successful. I try to demonstrate leadership on the court by knowing my role and the roles of others. In the beginning of the season, we were just learning the plays and how to play together as a team. I can recall instances where some players were confused on where to line up or where to go on set plays. By knowing the play, I was a leader by being vocal and made sure my teammates knew where to go. It was important to take the lead, run the play correctly and insure the team was successful.
I have a 6 year old step brother at home. He learns a lot by watching other people in his life. I lead by example when i am around him and others that may look up to me. It is important to demonstrate the right attitude, values and choices in life, so i do my best to be a positive leader and influence. As i grow and progress through high school, I hope to become a stronger leader.
As a multi-sport athlete "healthy athletic performance" requires using different muscles in different sports such as basketball, track and field, baseball to stay in the best physical shape. I am an active person. Both in-season and off-season, i find it important to keep myself in great physical condition. Aside from the aforementioned sports, I am active at the YMCA and frequently ride my bicycle.
Community service is important and something I would like to do more frequently. It is important to help others and get involved in the community in order to improve it. The more myself, and others can make a positive impact on the community, the better quality of life there will be for all of us. This past summer I volunteered to set up, work and tear down the St. Mark's June Bug Festival. Aside from setup and tear down, I ran game booths for kids and helped the adult coordinators with whatever they needed. I also participated with a basketball day camp for little kids who were learning to play. I look forward to volunteering for more school or church events and other opportunities that come my way.
