Personal Highlights

My collegiate goals are to get my degree, make it to the olympics, and live my life as a athlete and entrepreneur. I just want to enjoy college before I begin living my life. I bring so much confidence and positive energy not just to the team but to the whole college/university. I'm all about putting personal problems aside when it comes to my team because we all are ONE and that's the motto. I'm different from others in a lot of ways, I sometimes fall off, get disappointed in myself and then snap back like nothing happen, a lot stronger than I was last time. As a athlete, if your not mentally strong then your physically weak because if you think you can't do it then 9 times out of 10, you won't be able to. Don't get me wrong, I have moments when it happens to me but I have to be strong or I fail. My grades don't determine my knowledge but they do determine where I am at academically, I try to stay constant and focus.

Sidenote: I don't want to be rich nor famous, I want to be successful(with a degree, of course.)

Thanks for reading,

Dekota Lester

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I have been a athlete my entire life and I feel as though, college would take me to the next level with the big shots. College is all about having the most amazing experiences while doing the things you love and that's what I look forward to.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

At practice or even in a meet, I always try to keep a positive vibe like laughing and enjoying myself with my teammates but I also to put my foot down when it's time to get serious. At school and home, I have 2 younger sisters and I have to make sure they know about respect, responsibility, and relationship (RRR is what I call them) because they need to know their place as teenagers. I also make sure they know that nothing is given to you, it's either earned or taken so choose wisely.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I go to the weight room as much as possible to keep myself in shape. I put my heart and soul into shot put and discus. I have times where I just want to throw in the towel and give up but I have to fight it because it's in me to be something.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.
