I want to be recruited to play sports in college because rowing has not just become something I do after school every day, but it has become my life. Rowing has made me friends that I will have for the rest of my life, and has taught me things about life that schools can not. I can not imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't joined the crew team.
I have taken on numerous leadership roles in many different aspects of life. For example, I am the president of the Greek Orthodox Youth of America chapter at my church, or GOYA, I am one of three co-captains of the Manhasset High School boys varsity rowing team, I was primary bassist from seventh to tenth grade in the Manhasset High School Concert orchestra, I am treasurer of the Manhasset Science Olympiad club, and I am a Peer Responder Mentor at my school.
I pursue healthy academic performance as a student athlete by maintaining a good balance between academics, athletics, and personal health. I always strive to do the best I can on and off the water by eating healthy, and getting adequate amounts of sleep. I also realize that academics are the most important part of my life, so I make sure to keep my grades up.
The main way I involve myself in the community is through the Greek Orthodox Church. As the president of the Youth group in my church, GOYA, I help young members of my community to connect with their faith by joining them in helping the underprivileged, and participating in numerous service activities, such as the Midnight run, and annual food drives.
