This fall season my teammates and I enjoyed one of our most successful seasons yet. We began by competing at the Music City Head Race where I raced in the 4+ and the 2-. In the 4+ we won a gold medal out of 12 boats, and in the 2- we came in 4th place out of 7 boats. Next, we competed in the Chattanooga Head Race where I raced in the 8+, the 4+, and the 2-. In the 8+ we came in 6th out of 17 boats, in the 4+ we came in 5th out of 21 boats, and in the 2- we came in 4th out of 9 boats. Racing three times in one day was a new, very interesting and challenging experience for me, but I’m so glad I did it because it really showed me what I’m capable of as an athlete. At the Secret City Head Race, I raced in the 8+ and the 4+. In the 8+ we won a silver medal out of nine boats and in the 4+ we won another silver medal out of 11 boats. The biggest highlight of my season was definitely the Head of the Hooch. I raced in the 8+, the 4+, and the 2-. In the 8+ we came in 21st out of 78 boats, in the 2- we came in 10th out of 27 boats, and in the 4+ we came in 5th out of 84 boats. I was extremely proud of my team’s performance, especially in the 4+. We found a very effective rhythm together that helped us walk about 7 boat lengths on the boat that started before us. It was by far the best race of my entire fall season!
Over the course of the season we did several 20 minute tests. I consistently got a PR on each test starting with a 2:07.2, progressing to a 2:04.2, followed by a 2:01.4, and finishing the season with a PR of 2:00.2 and covering 9.98 meters per stroke.
I am very excited to start winter training! I’m looking forward to growing as an athlete, making some significant improvements, and setting lots of new PR’s!
