I have always dreamed of playing softball in college since I first realized that it could be possible. As I learn the game and watched the NCAA Regional all the way to the World Series over the past several years, that dream seems to be so close and within reach.
As a captain on my high school softball team my junior and sophomore years, and a player travel experience, I assist coaches in day to day practice drills, leading the team in prayer, as well as set up and clean up in practice and games. I assist coaches in after practice drills for those players that want extra help. I have also been a captain on my travel team most years since the age of 12.
Off the field I keep a full schedule by volunteering for softball camps to keep younger girls interested in softball. As well, I play violin in the school orchestra, playing both first and second chair. I assist my orchestra teacher in setting up for concerts and instruction of younger members, and often as a fill in conductor during practice.
I volunteer for the "love thy neighbor" charitable organization one Sunday a month. I have been doing this for a couple of years, wherein I volunteer by serving food, food preparation, cleaning, greeting, playing my violin and sometimes singing for people in my community.
The love thy neighbor program allows me to give back of my talents and my love for the community in which I live and to people both young and old that need not only the love of someone else, but also the need of encouragement that I can give. Even if it is only one day a month.
