2017-18 HS season recap
March 12, 2018
Where to start? Well, I was both humbled and proud to be voted junior class captain by my teammates for 2017-18. I played JV this season, primarily as a driver, and generally being a strong voice in the pool. Preseason started off slower than usual, as we didn't play as many tournaments and scrimmages as last year. After dropping our initial scrimmage to Los Alamitos, we quickly recovered and dominated the rest of the preseason, taking 1st at our annual La NiƱa tournament and following up with a scrimmage win against Edison. The regular season got off to a strong start, as we posted wins against Beckman, Woodbridge, and University. An away game against Corona Del Mar handed us our first loss, and saw me sit the next four games on concussion protocol. I caught a hand to the face as I came up from behind to defend, and the CDM player simultaneously reached back to catch. Ouch. I didn't think too much of it when it happened, but the concussion protocol test said otherwise. With us playing two games a week in the regular season, I was forced to watch my teammates from the sidelines as they posted Ws in the next four games against Northwood, Woodbridge, Beckman, and Uni. Cleared for limited minutes, I played for a win in the 4th quarter of our 2nd game against Northwood, and was cleared for unrestricted play in our final game, an unfortunate 2nd loss to CDM. Final record 13-3, 8-2 league (2nd).
