Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I want to be recruited to play college sports to further my passion. I have been playing soccer for 11 years now and I could not imagine my life without it. In my sophomore season I fractured my femur and was out for multiple months. During that time I realized I could not function without playing. Sitting there watching my team go to playoffs and not being able to play a portion of my cup season gave me hunger and drive for this current season. I came out of the injury wanting to play more than ever. So, being recruited for soccer not only would help me earn an education at that college, but will allow me to play the sport that I have loved for so many years.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On the field I exercise my leadership skills my mentoring the underclassmen coming up behind me in my position. In practices if I notice they are making small mistakes I correct them and show them how to fix them so that our team can better through the years. Also, on the field I lead by keeping my team focused on our end goal and staying on task in games and our practices. Off the field I demonstrate leadership in the classroom. When in group projects I take the leadership role and assign jobs to ensure that all of our work is done in a timely manner and is correct. I feel that there are many ways to show leadership other than by giving orders. Leadership can be shown by example. Simply doing the things that I am supposed to do in my community I feel that I am being a leader and showing the youth below me how to react in situations and be a good person and student in our community.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I pursue a healthy athletic performance in many ways. After our fall season is over I workout in the gym with a trainer to prevent injuries when I go back the next fall. By working out I become well rounded and not only work on my leg strength to help my kick become stronger and more powerful but also I work on my arm strength to exercise other muscles to give the ones I usually use a break. Along with working out I watch what I eat and make sure I take in a lot of protein to meet the demands of the physical activity that I do. Drinking a lot of fluids is also a big priority for me so that I do not cramp during a game and become dehydrated.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

Throughout my high school career every year we have a camp for our youth soccer players. I volunteer along side my teammates and coaches to help further develop and mentor
soccer players in my community. Each year doing the camp it helps me realize how much of an impact I can truly make on the people around me. By doing this it has also helped me develop the leadership skills needed to be a well rounded player. Teaching little kids small ways to become better is very important to me because I remember absorbing every little thing I could when I was younger. By helping them become a better player I feel as though I am furthering their interest in soccer and making them realize how fun and important the sport is. Volunteering at the camp is important to me because I like being apart of the legacy of Avonworth soccer to come.
