I believe the purpose and disciplinary aspects that I get from running positively affect my academic performance. Considering I am getting ready to take on the most academically challenging years of my life, I want to have a team, coaching staff, and sport that I can fall back on for any needed support while I am away from direct family.
One way I lead my team is by making sure everyone is mentally fit. I like to make an effort to check on my teammates and see how they are doing in and outside of school. That way, if they have a sub par performance, I know exactly what was wrong and how to help get them back on their feet.
My biggest standards that I uphold for myself as a student athlete is balancing school work with sleep and diet. It is rare that I don't get a good nights sleep because of school work. I also make sure I am eating and drinking plenty, especially during the school year, because that not only enhances athletic performance, but academic performance as well.
I have been a volunteer at our local soup kitchen, The Greensburg Community Bread of Life since 2012. I now serve as a Student Director on their Board of Directors. I am involved with this organization because of it's mission to provide a hot meal to anyone in need. We are working continuously to rid our community of food insecurity one meal at a time.
