Senior year is here and I'm working hard to achieve my goals on and off the court! An injury that kept me from playing for my high school junior year made me realize even more my love for the game. I plan to raise my SAT/ACT scores, create a memorable winning season with my team and find my fit for the opportunity to play college basketball. I enjoy being editor of the yearbook staff, being involved in my community and church and honoring my heritage by being a part of the Native American Student Association.

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

Since I was little I have loved the game of basketball. I remember watching my favorite players play college basketball and always wanted to play. I love the game and have a passion that I feel will never burn out! I cant imagine just going to college without being apart of a team, a second family.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

My 9th grade year I was 14 years old (I started young in school) I played on JV and Varsity. During the JV game in the 2nd quarter I came down hard on my foot and felt immense pain. I knew something was wrong but I had to push through as a leader because my team needed me. I played the rest of the game and won by 2 VS Florida High with a broken 5th metatarsal fracture. I had to get emergency surgery the next day and still have plates and screws in my foot. I don’t regret anything I did because my team needed me. I am willing to put my all into it every time I step on the court and know the risks that come with playing the game I love. Off season I encourage my teammates to stay out of trouble, we keep playing on Rec and AAU teams to bond even more and try to get them involved locally with fundraisers and community things. This year as a senior I can’t wait to hopefully make a play off run and be a leader on and off the court. Especially to my upcoming brother in the 10th grade.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

I always have known that taking care of my body was important. I work out daily by myself get shots in the gym etc. but I also do 3-4 days a week of CrossFit to get gains and stay fit during the off season. I use what I've learned from the PT who helped me get back to use proper techniques and form and make the most use of my workouts.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I love my local community. One of my youngest memories is of my dad showing empathy for someone in our community. It was pouring rain and a woman and her baby were getting drenched at a city bus stop. He rolled down the window and extended an umbrella with a smile and we drove away. My parents are both 1st generation college graduates and they have worked hard for their success. I am very blessed to have been raised with my family and they expect my brother and I to work for everything we have. We have a sneaker give away annually before school starts to give gently used sneakers to kids who want them. I also help my family collect blankets and socks for the local mission. I’ve enjoyed leading vacation bible school and helping with pumpkin sales to raise money for missions with our church. I come from a loving family who has raised me to respect and care about others around me so that is what I tend to do. I also help locally in the school with anything my counselors or coaches need. I cant imagine day to day life without basketball or community outreach, both feel right!
