Personal Highlights

My name is Winn Aung, and I am a student-swimmer athlete hoping to swim into college and beyond. I started swimming at the young age of four, and from my early years, I was motivated to give 110 percent effort at every practice I attended. Coming from a family that has a history of swimming, I dedicated myself to training and pushing limits so I come improve my ability as a young athlete. In the tender age of ten, I broke my first national age group record; from there, I proceeded to break eight other national age group records.

While swimming is a vital part of my lifestyle and culture, I also always strive to be most academically proficient in each and every one of my subject courses. Just like in swimming, I spent many hours dedicating myself to reviewing the course material and making sure I understand what was cover in class that day. When a concept makes little sense to me, I make sure to ask the course instructor to explain the subject more thoroughly.

In college, I will continue my dedicated and meticulous approach to both swimming and academic studies. For me, both swimming and academics are vital to my development and success as a young adult, and I strive to be the best in both of my fields. I plan to major in either the medical field or the engineering field, and I am determined to give my utmost effort into every participating course.

Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?

I thoroughly enjoy swimming and have been swimming pretty much all my life. I enjoy racing against fast competition, and going thorough my college life without swimming was not sometime I was willing to do.

Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.

On my swim team, I am one of the senior members of the whole team. This means that I lead the groups under me throughout practice, whether it be drill work, swim sets, or a good old game of water polo. I also am the leader for the team cheers at swim meets. Outside of swim, I help my fellow peers with homework and other activities they they may need help with.

Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.

As a student-athlete, I peruse a healthy athletic performance by never missing a practice. I plan my days accordingly, and if I cannot make a practice because of an essay or a school project, I make up the time on weekends or extra morning practices.

Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

I volunteer at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. Because I want to go into the medical field, I find that working in a hospital helps me understand the workplace a little bit more. I also like helping those in need and thoroughly enjoy my time there. I also volunteered at Turtle Bay Exploration Park for a year, helping the staff, animals, and the patrons who needed my assistance.
