I enjoy the competition, the team bonding, and the feeling of accomplishment at the end of races. Rowing is something I am very competitive with, and I work my hardest to be in the best boats. The friends I have made through rowing have become like family and we work and drive each other everyday we row. My teammates and I motivate each other to work our hardest in and out of rowing. We celebrate our successes at races, and we share our academic achievements and have a supporting attitude with everything we put our hearts into. Rowing is a big part of my life, and I value each day I can be on the water (or erging).
I am an Eagle Ambassador at my high school. We help show potential students our school and can have shadows to show what it's like to be a high school student.
With rowing, I have learned to balance school and extracurriculars more efficiently. Taking honors and AP classes brings on lots of stress that rowing helps to diminish. My coaches encourage us to be healthy with our weight classes, never forcing people to be in an unfit class. I am able to get 6-8 hours every night because of my schedule of rowing, homework, and any other clubs or groups I have participated in during that day. I have learned to be healthier in my diet, my sleep schedule, and my workouts. When I am healthy, I am happier.
I Volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul. We have the opportunity to do holiday services for a few hours, serve dinners, take donations and sort them, etc. I enjoy serving because it puts us face to face with people who may be struggling, and we have the opportunity to help them. Knowing that I am doing what I can do help with this group helps me to grow in my faith and understanding of poverty.
