Additional Questions:
Why do you want to be recruited to play sports in college?
-
Athletes are often leaders on and off the field. Please provide one example of how you have demonstrated leadership in both areas.
-
Please explain how you pursue "healthy athletic performance" as a student-athlete.
-
Please describe how you are involved in service in your community and why these efforts are important to you.

Being a boarding school student for 5 years, I've learned that your community is wherever you are. At school, I serve as a head tour guide, which gives me an opportunity to pass on my love of my school and be the face of the school to perspective students. I am also the study hall manager at the Chang Innovation Center, where I am responsible for a quiet study environment and providing help when needed.

At the end of this week, eight students and I will be going to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis to volunteer. I'm thankful for the opportunity to share my heart with these kids, and I know I'll leave inspired. Over New Year's, I went to Haiti to work at an orphanage. The children had a profound impact on me, and I'm already planning a trip back in June. Several summers ago I went to the Dominican Republic, where a group of teens and I set up and ran a camp for the children in the bateyes (Haitian sugarcane camps). These difficult experiences challenged the way I view the world and showed me that by stepping up and putting myself out there for someone else does make a difference.

My father and both grandfathers served in the military, giving me a heart for veterans in my community. This summer I volunteered for 120 hours at the Houston VA Hospital, in the long term care ward. Beyond supporting the nurses and staff, I developed relationships with the veterans living in the hospital. This Christmas I organized, filled, and delivered Christmas stockings for all the veterans in the ward who had no where else to go. I am in the process of creating more ways to give back to this important, and often forgotten community.
